Top 5 Tips for Embracing the Color of the Year on Vinyl Patios and Decks

If you’re looking for an easy way to bring vinyl patios and decks into the New Year, look no further than purple. Or rather, Pantone’s 18-3838 or Ultra Violet. Every year Pantone picks its “color of the year” and for 2018 it’s a deep, soothing purple. So how can Ultra Violet help make vinyl decks and patios look amazing? Easy!

Tip #1: Go Fabric Shopping

If you’re even a little bit handy with a sewing machine, you can easily update your vinyl deck, patio, or sundeck with Ultra Violet. Simply head to the fabric store! Pillows and square cushions are fairly straightforward and after an afternoon you’ll have something colorful to add to your space.

If you’re not a sewer, look for shades of purple in outdoor cushions at fabric stores – odds are you can find it since most home stores keep an eye on the new trends each year.

Tip #2: Add Accents to Vinyl Patios and Decks

If you don’t want to change out your fabrics, adding a few Ultra Violet accents are a perfect way to update vinyl patios and decks. You could repaint some old metal or wood furniture, or go small and add some planters and dishware.

Tip #3: Look for Art

The walls supporting vinyl patios and decks are most often overlooked when it comes to decorating an outdoor space. So what can you do to bring Ultra Violet to your walls? It couldn’t be easier – paint it! Not the wall, of course, but with a cheap canvas and a small pot of paint, you can quickly make a masterpiece. Make sure your paint isn’t water soluble though!

Tip #4: Purple Plants for Vinyl Patios and Decks

While some may be up for more permanent changes to vinyl patios and decks, you may not. So look for Ultra Violet (or variations) in the plant world. Purple is a popular flower color, and you can also find shades of violet in grasses and other plants. Pick up a few varieties and combine with yellows and oranges for a colorful deck, or add some subdued greens and pastel pinks for a more relaxing environment.

Tip #5: Combine Color to Create Calm (or Chaos)

When you’re adding color to any space, consider the mood you would like to achieve. You can go for an energetic space by combining Ultra Violet with bright yellows and oranges (like the plants above, or with fabrics, paints, and accessories). Alternatively, create a serene, spa-like feel by employing softer pinks, greys, and creams if that’s your preferred route. Remember that nothing is permanent, other than your high-quality vinyl deck membrane!
